Know the Ropes virtual event with Jennifer Swanson ‘90

ASTRONAUT OR AQUANAUT? In this corner, we have ASTRONAUT in the spacesuit! In this corner, we have AQUANAUT in the wetsuit! Who will be the ultimate explorer?!? Join us, along with children’s book author Jennifer Swanson ’90, for an interactive exploration of these two extreme adventurers on Thursday, 18 February at 7 p.m. EST. Feel free to pass along this invitation to whomever you feel would love to explore with us.

Swanson, author of Astronaut-Aquanaut, will engage the audience in a debate with interactive questions and help us compare and contrast the benefits and dangers of outer space and deep sea living. This program is best for children in first grade and older.

Swanson is an award winning author of more than 40 nonfiction books for children, mostly about science and technology. Using her background in science and history that she received as a 1990 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and her M.S. in Education, Swanson excels at taking complex facts and making them accessible, compelling and humorous for young readers. Swanson’s love of STEM began when she started a science club in her garage at the age of 7. She’s no longer working from the garage and her books have received many accolades including the Booklist Best Tech books list, AAAS Subaru Longlist, Green Earth Book Honor Award, a Florida Book Award and multiple California Reading Association awards and National Science Teaching BEST STEM awards. Her Brain Games book was even #13 on the The Planets.org 50 Best Science Books Ever Written.

She is also the creator of the STEM Tuesday blog, STEAMTeamBooks promotion group and creator and cohost of Solve It! for Kids, a STEM podcast for kids and families where Jennifer encourages kids (of all ages) to engage their curiosity and DISCOVER the Science all around them!
